hi,

Our firewall log files are sent to a Linux box. And the file is really big, 60g. I am wondering how can you open this file and view?

Thanks,

Han

Han,

Vim or cat ?

It should be a normal text file unless your syslog daemon rotates the logs...

In which case you will need to unzgip them or similar...

Marcin

edit. 60GB! WOW! PLease rorate those logs!

You can also grep and egrep.

Opening with an editor in windows...I don't think that will work with a 60Gigs file unless you break it in peices.!

Another thing to consider doing except from Marcin's suggestion to rotate the logs is breaking the log file in many fixed size files when they reach a certain size. That is an option in most syslog servers and will make syslog control more efficient.

I hope it helps.
