I am a newbie at this, green as the leaves opening in spring. I have a CISCO 5510 Adaptive Security Appliance and was wondering how to open port 5222 for our new IP phone system we are installing here at the office.
Thanks,

Hi,
The most important thing for you to determine here would be the direction of traffic that you would like to allow through the ASA device.
If you want to allow the traffic from your Inside(Secure) interface to Outside(Non-Secure) interface , you don't need to allow any ports in the ACL.
If it is the other way around , then you would need the ACL to allow the ports on the ACL on the outside interface access-group.
I would request you to specify the requirement clearly.
Thanks and Regards,

Mr. Amrodia,
Thank you for taking the time to respond. If we are having log on access problems which is out bound signals, but my phone service provider is unable recognize the log on & passwords which I know work at other wireless access points it seems to me that the response from the IP phone service provider/inbound traffic through my firewall is what is being blocked.
Thank you for your input. I will go back to my IP phone service provider with this information. If my deductions are correct.
