Cisco IDSM-2 offers transparent operation via passive, promiscuous inspection of packet copies via VACL capture and Switch Port Analyzer/Remote SPAN (SPAN/RSPAN) never exposes the network to performance degradation or downtime because the device is not in the switch-forwarding path.
