Everytime I try to use packet tracer I get the following error...
error while forming the xml data
I click OK and there is absolutely no output. I ahve uninstalled and reinstalled the ASDM and this happens on multiple firewalls. This does not happen when I access the FW through other systems. I have searched pretty hard and cannot find anything relating to this error.

HI Richard,
Can you also provide an output of "show run interface" from the firewall?? It could be a bug as well.

Hi,
I would presume that most problems with ASDM are related to some problem with Java , some problem with the actual ASDM software version or simply a problem on the actual host where the ASDM is run on.
The original poster or you didnt mention any software version you are using.
As an alternative you could try out using the "packet-tracer" from the CLI or the ASDMs Tools menu -> Command Line Interface.
The format is very simple
packet-tracer input
packet-tracer input
I personally always use the "packet-tracer" from the CLI of ASA
