Why can I ping a public IP for a (NAT static) server sitting behind one PIX from inside on one network but cannot do the same on another network with a nearly identical PIX config?
Also, on a network where I can ping the public IP of some servers why can't I ping others?

Is the "alias" command associated with the servers that it works for in your config?

No, but when I tried that command to help with the problem it had no effect.

Maybe you can try the solution of DNS Doctoring, that is you add keyword "dns" in your static commands.
