Can someone explain why I need this for my ADSL connection. I have a ADSL modem configured which I am about to change for a ADSL Router.
What's the reason for PPPoE in my firewall ? Thought authentication was done via the Modem/Router.
Also what version of Pix 501 supports PPPoE. I have just bought one.
Can anyone clear this up.
Regards
Patrick

If your Modem or router already does PPPoE, then you do not need the 501 to do the Authentication. If you normally have to do the Auth via a piece of Crappy software, then it makes more sense for the device to do it than you yourself. The 501 does not Curently support PPPoE last I read. You will have to go to their site to confirm.

thanks for that reply.
I think the 501 is due for pppoe in Q1 2002. Which I guess is now!
Anyway I'll let my Modem do the ADSL authentication and let the firewall do what I bought it for..
