I purchased the PIX 501 configured for my cable service with default settings. I had no problem with it until I started messing with it. Im not an IT guy but I thought the default settings were all I needed for my stand-alone computer but was recently advised by a so-called expert that I should disable the DHCP and URL filtering and enable the Anti-Spoofing for both interfaces. I did as advised and the firewall is now blocking my cable Internet provider from allowing me to go to any other sites. How can I reconfigure the 501 back to the default settings? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi joe,
You can clear the flash memory configuration and back to default configuration by "write erase" command then reload your PIX.
Pls note all of your configuration will be erased and your PIX configuration back to default factory configuration.
maybe your issue solve by removing access-group from your interfaces.

Thank you Mehrdad for answering.
I can't get into the pix to do anything. Is there another way I can clear the flash memory configuration?
Thank You

Connect to the pix through console connection.
You can connect with HyperTerminal software in your windows OS and rollover cable (fine it in your PIX package) to connect to PIX though console connection.
the below link explains connection a PC to a router's console port that it's as same connection a PC to a PIX's console :
http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/63/terminal_settings.html
by the way, if you didn't write configuration at PIX, you can turn power off then trun on it.

That's what I tried to do - all I got was a blank screen with a blinking cursor in the upper left hand corner. I tried unpluging the PIX for 30 seconds and a different rollover cable - still nothing.
Do you think the PIX died on me?

No, be sure that your PIX is alive.
Check your COM port on your PC that it's enable or use another PC also assure about :
- choosing correct COM port at your HypertTerminal
- set bits per second to 9600, data bits to 8, parity to none, stop bits to 1, flow control to none

Hello,
I have checked both my com ports, both are working fine. I have tried using both ports, same results. I have been using the default settings on the ports of 9600baud, 8 data bits, no parity and 1 stop bit. I am leaving now to test the PIX with another computer but I have my doubts this box is alive.
Thank you very much for all your assistance, I'll let you know what I find out with another computer.

OK,
For whatever reason the console method will not work on either computer. We then hooked it up to a network and found a work around via using network connections, properties, Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), properties and then manually inputting 192.168.1.11 IP address and we were able to get into the PDM. It's back up and running.
Thanks,
Joe
