PIX 506E access and configuration

I have two PIX 506E firewalls used for VPN and VoIP between two offices. They were installed by someone else and I do not have any documentation to learn how to access or configure them. I'm new at this technology but want to learn more. I was reading another message about QoS which is supposed to be available in ver 7 and I would like to know how to install and configure it when it comes out. My IT budget is blown and I have to be able to do this myself. Any help would be great.

OK, Firstly, Do you have the passwords for your pix? If not then you'll need to follow the password recovery procedure on the following document:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/vpndevc/ps2030/products_password_recovery09186a008009478b.shtml

Let me know and we can take this further.

Jay

Jay, Thank you for responding. I have found the password for the pix. What do I do now? Martin

Martin,

Good to hear that you have found the password for your pix. My question is, what are you trying to do? Do you need to see just the configuration? Or are you trying to change the configuration? Or even just trying to understand how it all works.

If you are not familiar with the pix then I'd suggest that you don't try to change anything, better to buy a book on the subject.

Jay

Jay, I'm trying to learn how the technology gets set up and how it all works. Any good book suggestions? I'm going to need to learn how to configure and upgrade the PIX especially when ver 7 comes out. I need the QoS feature that is supposed to be in it to try and fix a VoIP quality problem. Thanks again, Martin

Hi,

It would be helpful if you could share the show version ouput of the PIX for me to understand what is the current version of PIX OS.

Regards,

Sriharshaa Prabhakar

Sriharshaa, The PIX OS version is 6.3. Thank you, Martin
