It is a know issue, you need to flash the code from ROM monitor mode.

I am having the same issue, there is a TAC tech notes regarding this, see below. This should resolve your problem, unless you have the same issue I am having, the Monitor mode TFTP will not load the image either. (timeout on TFTP server side). Hope this helps.

When you upgrade with the copy tftp flash method, you see this error message:

pixfirewall# copy tftp flash

Address or name of remote host [0.0.0.0]? 172.18.173.123

Source file name [cdisk]? pix701.bin

copying tftp://172.18.173.123/pix701.bin to flash:image

[yes|no|again]? y

This message is typically seen when the PIX-535 or PIX-515 (non E) is upgraded via the copy tftp flash method, and PDM is also loaded in Flash on that PIX.

The resolution is to upgrade with the Monitor Mode method.

ive tried the resolution mentioned above but i got tftp problem. it could ping the tftp server but it doesnt show any file transfer once tftp command is invoked.

I have the same issue, and am working with Cisco TAC on this now.

A possible solution, I cannot try until Monday morning: Connect the Server/Workstation/Laptop that is running tftp directly to the PIX interface set up in Monitor mode.

(May need a cross-over cable). Set up parameters as per documentation, pointing to IP of PC. According to the info I have, this "should" work.

(If this does work, after reload, be sure to load the image again, "copy tftp flash", to get a bootable image onto the PIX flash!)

Monitor mode TFTP with the PC Directly attached to the configured interface WORKS! (set Server address and Gateway to point to PC IP address).
