I want to upgrade my PIX515-UR from IOS Version 5.2 to 6.1
Do I need a new 3DES license, or will the existing one work with the new IOS version?

The PIX License is tied to the Serial number (which is burned in on flash). So, upgrading the software will NOT require you to modify your license. Just use the "copy tftp flash" command to copy a new image over and reboot. That's it.
