Hi,
I am wanting to upgrade my ASA to go to the lastest ASA code. I am running a ASA 5505 w/ 5121MB of RAM. I am looking for option on upgrading, i'm not sure I want to spend $200+ for a 1GB stick of ram.
Can anyone help me? Is there cisco compatible ram I can find for cheaper?

Hi,
If you are already runnig the ASA with 512MB RAM then aint that enough for the new software?
I for example am running the new software on my ASA5505 with 256MB RAM because its supported when on the 10 or 50 User License only.
I'm usually using 8.4(5) or 9.1(1) software level

From what I have read, I will need to upgrade to 1GB to run 9.1. I'm on a 50 user lic currently.
I tried running ASA 8.4 on 256MB and it crapped out on me, ran slow. In fact on cisco's website it says you need 512MB ram to run 8.3 and above.
And what you sent me is just default ram that is shipped with it.

Hi,
It also states what the memory requirements are for the ASA5505 model with different licenses for 8.3 and above software. It doesnt seem to state anywhere that more than 512MB would be needed. Then again the document might be out of date then or something.
Though since my ASA5505 is in home use it doesnt have that many users behind it but its working without problems and I have run it on the very lastest softwares 9.1(1) for example
Currenly running it on 8.4(5)
ASA(config)# sh ver
Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance Software Version 8.4(5)
Device Manager Version 7.1(2)
Compiled on Mon 29-Oct-12 10:13 by builders
System image file is "disk0:/asa845-k8.bin"
Config file at boot was "startup-config"
ASA up 29 days 1 hour
Hardware: ASA5505, 256 MB RAM, CPU Geode 500 MHz
Internal ATA Compact Flash, 128MB
BIOS Flash M50FW080 @ 0xfff00000, 1024KB
Naturally with only 256MB the RAM in normal use is between 80-90% so that is not good.
Though didnt you say you had 512MB RAM on your unit already?

Correct I have a 512MB chip in it. And mine is in place at home as well.
