Recovering Password on PIX

HI All,

hope this is the right place for this question. I have an old pix, using ver 4.4 and am trying to reset the password. Have downloaded the bin and exe file, as the device has a floppy. Upon executing the .exe file, it prompts me for the following,

Enter source file name:

Is this the location of the bin file on my drive, where it woulda been saved.? Is this just a program trying to copy the .bin file to the floppy.? I actually saved both original files onto a drive in Linux, and copied both to a floppy. So, the source file, if it's wanting the bin file's location, is already on the floppy. Sorry if I've confused you with this. Cheers.

I copied both files to the drive, on Win2kPro, and then ran the .exe file, then input the location of the .bin file, and after pressing enter, the whole window closed. What am I not understanding with this..? Cheers, again.

yes, I most certainly was following that. Why would the window close after inputting the path of the bin file.? Cheers.

Here is an exampkle of what you need to do

C:\pix> rawrite

RaWrite 1.2 - Write disk file to raw floppy diskette

Enter source file name: np44.bin (use correct path)

Enter destination drive: a:

Please insert a formatted diskette into drive A: and press -ENTER- :

Number of sectors per track for this disk is 18

Writing image to drive A:. Press ^C to abort.

Track: 78 Head: 1 Sector: 16

Done.

2.Install a serial terminal or a PC with terminal emulation software on the PIX console port.

3.Verify that you have a connection with the PIX, and that characters are going from the terminal to the PIX, and from the PIX to the terminal.

Note: Because you are locked out, you will see only a password prompt.

4.Insert the PIX Password Lockout Utility disk into the floppy drive of the PIX.

5.Push the Reset button on the front of the PIX. The PIX will reboot from the floppy and print the message below:

Erasing Flash Password. Please eject diskette and reboot.

6.Eject the disk and press the Reset button. You will now be able to log in without a password. When you are prompted for a password, press Return.

7.The default Telnet password after this process is "cisco." There is no default enable password. Go into configuration mode and issue the passwd

your_password command to change your Telnet password and the enable password your_enable_password command to create an enable password, and

then save your configuration.

Hi All,

yes, I have been following that page. The command prompt window disappears after inputting the np44.bin file path and pressing enter. I'm at a loss as to why this is happening. I even re-downloaded the files, and tried again. Cheers.

Can you try using a different workstation.

There might be more programs in this workstation causing problems.
