Reimage ASA to FTD - Licensing

Hi,

I have a few ASA's with FirePOWER modules. The FirePOWER modules are being managed by FMC and each has a Protection, Control, URL Filtering & Malware license allocated to it. If I were to re-image the ASA to the FTD image, how does the licensing work? Do I need any additional licenses?

you can convert your ASA into FTD. however remember ASA sfr working with FMC work on traditional licensing  but once you convert your asa in to FTD you need a smart licensing. you need to get in touch with cisco software licensing team they will sort this out for you.

Thank you. Will the software licensing team simply convert all the traditional licenses to smart licenses? Are there any additional licenses that are required on top of the Protection, Control, URL Filtering & Malware licenses? There's no base license for example?

Yes. it will be simple you dont have to do anything. just explain you moving from asa to FTD and need to convert the lic.

I think In the licensing portal, you can select you classic license, activate the cortext-menu and convert to smart-license there."Threat" is the base license on FTD images. It is analogous to Control plus the IPS subscription combined for the Firepower service module
