Hi everyone,

My partner is looking for the Smartnet for his PIX525, but PIX525 is eol the replacement is ASA5520-BUN-K9 and ASA5520-k8.

Questions:

1.     Can the smartnet for ASA above work with His PIX525? Y or N

2.     If Yes, which Smartnet should I give him(CON-SNT-AS2BUNK9 or CON-SNT-AS2K8)?

3.     If No, which Smartnet should I recommend for the PIX525?

best regards

sam

Unfortunately you can't use ASA smartnet on PIX firewall. Smartnet is based on the serial# of the device.

Since PIX525 has reached EOL, we will not be supporting the product anymore, therefore, no Smartnet will be available for that product. The last day to add Smartnet for PIX525 was July 28, 2009.

Hope that answers your question.

Thanks I appreciate..

Cheers, pls kindly mark the post as answered if you have no further question. Thank you.

Can I ask you question on unified communication?

I don't know much about UC. You might want to post your UC question under the Voice section of CSC (Netpro):

Ok tx..

So what is your area of specialization..

Hi Jennifer,

I saw in the eol publication for pix525 which says:

Milestone Definition Date

End of service Contract The last date to extend or renew a October 23, 2012

Renewal Date: HW service contract for the product

What this means is that if my partner has a smartnet service currently running on his pix525, that mean he can still extend or renew the smartnet contract?

Please advise.

Check the link:

Security is my area of specialization.

Yes, you are correct. If the PIX525 currently has existing Smartnet contract, it can just be renewed. However, if the PIX525 is not on an existing Smartnet contract, you won't be able to add that anymore.

Last day: July 28, 2009

For equipment and software that is not covered by a  service-and-support contract, this is the last date to order a new  service-and-support contract or add the equipment and/or software to an  existing service-and-support contract.

Last day: October 23, 2012

The last date to extend or renew a service contract for the product.

If you renew the existing Smartnet contract for the PIX 525, it will only be renewed until July 27, 2013 (This will be the absolute last day to receive any support on this device).

Hi jeniffer,

Thanks for your reply.

My partner's PIX 525 has an existing smartnet contract, so that means we can order/renew this smartnet. So what will be the part number for the smartnet/part number for the renewal for the PIX 525.

We want to renew this smartnet, how can we go about it? I mean, what is the part number?

Thanks

sam

The current part# for the smartnet should be listed in the existing smartnet contract itself. I don't know what service level you currently have, therefore won't be able to provide the exact part#. Can you please share your existing contract#? I can check that for you. Or, alternatively, you should contact your Cisco rep. that normally assist with Smartnet contract. He/she should be able to assist you with the renewal base on your existing part# in the smartnet contract.

Thanks so much jennifer.. I appreciate your support. I will contact you in the future on anything security related issues.

Thanks
