Please can someone shed light on the reason why SSH to a server that is nated behind firewall will just fail to connect, and after several attempt it will get connected. NOTE, SSH has been tried severally on different networks just to ascertain that its not network related.

Connection failed : connection timed out is the error giving.

Is the server responding in time? ASA might close half-open sessions because server does not respond in time. You might want to tweak tcp timeouts using a service-policy to test if this is indeed the case (or do a packet capture and verify the response time of the server)
