SSH versus HTTP

Hi, i was wondering if anyone has encountered a difference in download speeds between using an SSH client and just using HTTP?  We notice that the SSH client can download the same file at lightening speed as compared to using HTTP.  Wondering if it's related to the configuration on the FWSM or something I can tweek or if it's something that is normal between the two protocols?  Thanks

do you have HTTP inspection enabled on your FWSM ? you can test speed by disabling inspection for http.  The encrypted traffic like ssh or https are not inspected where as http can inspected  and when you are downloading data using http , every first fragmented packet will be inspected and that could slow down the traffic.

well, I thought you had it there for a second but we don't have HTTP Inspect turned on in the FWSM.  thanks

It could be enabled on the remote end where the http server reside or that end is clear too ? Inspection, url checking/filtering or QoS for http can be the only reasons I can think of.
