Standby ASA IP address

When configuring Active Standby ASA firewalls do you need a standby address? The problem I have is that we have a single customer WAN link with single IP address but two firewalls.

I think the answer to my question is not to configure a Standby address for failover and set the interface to be not monitored, but I'm not sure and have no way to test other than a live environment, which is not going to happen, hence my question.

Many Thanks

Dave

Hi Dave,

The standby IP address is recommended, but not required for failover to work. Just keep in mind that you won't be able to access the Standby unit on that interface, and as you mentioned interface monitoring won't work.
