My company just got me a laptop since I have been traveling a lot lately, however I am unable to use our VPN Client. Below are the specs on my laptop and VPN Client.

VPN Client 3.6.4

Windows XP Home SP2

AMD Turion 64 Mobile 1.6 Ghz

Firewall Disabled

Virus Scan Disabled

IPSEC Disabled

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the client several times. I have tried a fresh install of windows, disabling all of the firewalls and things before I install. Whenever I try and run the client I get the following message "The neccessary VPN sub-system is not available." I check the services and the cisco vpn service is not running. I check the event logs and it says "The Cisco Systems Inc. IPSec Driver service depends on the following nonexistent service: DNE"

My main question is do you believe that this has to deal with the fact that the processor is a 64bit processor, or is their something corrupt with the DNE install? If anyone has some answers or the same problem please post.

Thanks

The error is correctly indicate the VPN service was not running/loaded successfully due to Deterministic Network (DNE) issue.

This may not be due to your WinXP, but could be Cisco VPN Client software version. There was some know compatibility issues between VPN Client and DNE VPN drive.

Try to install newer VPN Client software, or different version from the one you try to use now.

Try any of these newer versions (need CCO ID to download it):

vpnclient 4.8.01

vpnclient 4.7.00

vpnclient 4.6.04

vpnclient 4.0.5

vpnclient 3.6.6

If you triedand still doesn't went well, you may need to look at other related issue with 64bit-based OS, as mentioned here:

http://forum.cisco.com/eforum/servlet/NetProf?page=netprof&forum=Virtual%20Private%20Networks&topic=Security&CommCmd=MB%3Fcmd%3Ddisplay_location%26location%3D.1ddca23a

Cisco did highlighted the 64-bit OS issue with VPN Client, but only for Linux OS.

The newer client seemed to work. I was not going to try a newer version until I found out it if could be the processor since my desktop is running the same software Windows XP Home SP2 and all the other software I use and it ran the cliet fine. The only thing I had noticed different was my processor. Anyways the newer client seemed to work.

Thanks

I believed most of newer version should be working fine. The issue was on the older clients. Which working version you installed?
