Troubles with Cisco ASA 5508-X and ISP

Dear Community,

I would have a short question to you. I currently have some troubles in connecting our ASA5508-X to the Internet. The architecture is the following:

Internet Service Provider <=> Cisco ASA 5508-X <=> Internal Server

In this regards I would have the following questions to you:

1. Can you confirm that the ASA 5508-X with FirePower can connect to our ISP without an additional device (router)? We have a VDSL connection and wanted to establish the connection directly.

In the past we used a small AVM router and just inserted "Username, password, etc.".

ISP <=> AVM Router <=> ASA5508-X <=> Internal

Can we just do the same with the ASA?

ISP <=> ASA5508-X <=> Internal

2. Is that correct that we would have two possibilities to configure the outside interface ?

2.1. Via PPPoE

2.2. Via static IP (given by the ISP)

I tested the PPPoE connection in the past, but without success (via ASDM). That means:

1. I selected the outside interface and pressed edit

2. inserted PPPoE username and password

3. Chose a name for the Group

4. changed the MTU to 1492

I saved the settings, but outside interface is still offline.

Best Greetings

Hello,

Cisco ASA 5508 is capable of acting as the pppoe client and also as a DHCP client.

If you are not able to get the pppoe up and running, please follow the guide :

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/security/asa-5500-x-series-next-generation-firewalls/110322-asa-pppoe-00.html

Get the debugs while connecting and also try to check with ISP if they are expecting a vlan tag in PPPOE negotiations.
