i have a asa "5520" that doesnt have the latest asdm "7.1(6)" or asa os , im wondering would there be any harm in upgrading to the lastest asdm that is newer than the current asa os? would there be any benefit as well?

Typically you can (and you should) use an actual ASDM, also if there is no actual ASA-image to use.
The Download-Area mentiones which ASDM can be used with which ASA-version. For example:
