upgrading from cisco pix 515e to asa 5510

Hi all,

I would like to upgrade my cisco pix 515e ver 6.3(4) to asa5510 ver 8.2(1).

Pls advise if i can export the config from pix515e and import to asa5510 and if the config exported from my pix is usable in my asa5510 straight away or i need to make some changes for the config to work in asa ver8.2(1). Thks in advance.

Hi Shilpa,

Thk you. Hence can i confirm if the following steps are correct.

1)convert my pix configuration file using pixtoasa to a file name eg runconfig.cfg

2) Upload runconfig.cfg to my asa5510 disk0 filesystem using asdm

3)issue the command "copy disk0:/runconfig.cfg startup-config

4)use asdm or CLI to reload my asa5510, after reload my asa5510 should have the converted configuration from my pix firewall

In the link http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/asa/migration/guide/pix2asa.html#wp290854 in step5 under "using the GUI", for boot image path, can i just leave it empty or must i specify disk0:/ where all the files eg asa.bin and asdm.bin are stored.
