Virtual DC

I have an old Sourcefire3D Virtual Defense Center that has been out out of production for several years now but I kept in my inventory. It is running 5.1 and is not currently being used but we are looking to upgrade all ASAs to the X models in order to get Firepower functionality. My question is, can we repurpose and upgrade this virtual DC to use in our new Firepower deployment?

thanks,

Brandon

If you have a support contract you can upgrade it in steps to the current release (6.0.1 as of now).

I did that for our lab virtual DC starting from 5.2 > 5.3 > 5.4 > 6.0 including the interim patches along the way. It's managing both an ASA 5506-X with FirePOWER module and a 3D7125.

Yes - the licenses will carry through if you do an inline upgrade.

Doing the upgrade without GUI access will be tricky though.

So the current license will stay with me through the upgrade? I was afraid of getting to a more current version and needing a new license. I have been wanting to get to the GUI to pull the license/SN but I can't get the web page to load. It resolves and I have CLI access but I can't get the login screen to populate.

I have the licenses from the etc/sf/license.d directory but I am unable to open a service request without a SN or PO. Would love to know for sure that I don't need a new license but it seems every corner I turn on this is a dead end.
