ASA Upgrade

I'm curious about the upgrade path for ASA. If I have an ASA running 7.x code and want to upgrade it to 9.1, do I need to jump to intermediate code if I don't care about the config? As soon as it gets to 9.1 I plan to do a wr erase and start over.

Thanks

Yeah, you can just upgrade the firewall without problem in that case, but you have to check that you have the required amount of RAM on the ASA to support 8.3+ code.

Hi houstonrob,

Here you can find the information on how to upgrade your ASA first from version 7.x to 8.x and then from version 8.x to 9.x

I hope you find this information helpful.

Why would I need to jump from 7 to 8 then 8 to 9 if I plan on wiping the device once the upgrade is complete?

houstonrob,

If you don't care about the configuration then you can jump to 9.1, you should only check if your device has enough RAM and enough space in the flash.
