Want to manage a Cisco PIX 501 on Mac OS X Browser

Hi, we recently put a Mac Server into the mix and want to access the Cisco PIX 501 from it. We can get to the address, the certificate notice, and even the login - then it stops and never opens. Certainly this must be doable? Tried via Safari and FireFox - latest versions. OS X 10.6.4 Snow Leopard with all the updates. Pop blockers turned off! Any help would be must appreciated!

If you try to access the PIX from a windows machine it works?

You should be able to access it from a mac as well, let's just discard any problem with the GUI on the PIX itself.

Yes, when access via Internet Explorer 7 on a Windows XP machine, it works. The point is, we want to be able to access the GUI via a Mac OS X.

Hi Tim,

This depends on what version of ASDM you are trying to access. You'll need to make sure that your OS, browser, and Java version are supported by the ASDM version you're using. Mac support wasn't added until ASDM 6.0.

Double check which ASDM version you're using, and then check the release notes for that version to make sure you have the correct browser and Java versions needed:

     Since it is a 501, the latest train of PIX code you can even run is 6.3.5.x and as a result, the latest PDM version is going to be 3.0.4. Luckily I have a Macbook running SNow Leopard and a 501 right here infront of me. Let me quickly upgrade it to 3.0.4 and see what the result is. My hunch is that it won't load because of the significant differences between the Java build that comes with Snow Leopard (I think there was even a recent OSX update pushed) and the ancient Java requirement of PDM....

Yup it barks back an error... Let me see if there is anything we can do about this... The PIX code (and PDM as well) is not longer being developed as you probably know.

Went ahead and tested firefox/chrome/safari and none will load PDM in my setup... Seems OSX bundles Java 1.6.0 Update 22. Unfortunately you may be out of luck for a GUI on the 501 on OSX.
