On PIX firewall I occasionally see a "." appended to the prompt. Does anyone know what this means? I've heard it has to do with authentication is progress to the PIX is hung.

Hello Perry,
If you are seing "." when using SSH to connect to the PIX it means the following:
The . does not affect the SSH session, but is used as an indicator to show you that the PIX is generating a server key or is decrypting a message. In other words, the PIX is busy setting up the connection. After this set up, the PIX will prompt you to enter a username.
Hope this helps - Jay
