You can't load any new signatures without a license. How long do your licenses run? On April 26, 2018 the signature support for these legacy devices stop anyway.
Perhaps you should start planning to migrate to a new ASA with FirePOWER.

Hi Karsten Iwen
Can we use the ASA 5545-X ?

As Karsten said, it's depend on how much throughput do you need, what features you want to enable. Here is datasheet link please go through it

The 5545-X should be the "logical" replacement for a 5540. How much throughput do you need (now and in the next years)?
When thinking about sizing, you also have to think about that FirePOWER can give you much more then just IPS. There is Advanced Malware protection (AMP), URL-filtering, SSL-inspection and Application Visibility and Control (AVC). All bring a great value to a network, but also consume much CPU-power.

When license Expire, We can't load any new signatures only without a license. The traffic and old signature work ?
Thanks
