Where to start?

15 years in and I'm touching my first IPS device. I've just plugged an ASA-SSM-20 into an ASA 5520. I'm looking for online documentation and there seems, at first glance, to be very little out there.

I found this http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/asa/quick_start/ips/ips_qsg.html but I'm stuck on step 6. When I run through the wizard I never come to a "IPS Basic Configuration screen"

I prefer the cli but if I have to use ASDM to learn more about the product I will. From the ASA cli I can session into the module. I can also ping out from the module to anything. I can't however ping the module from anywhere including the ASA or my PC.

You could start with the Ciscopress-book "CCNP Security IPS 642-627 Official Cert Guide". I don't know that book, but if it is near to the official courseware it should include anything you need to get started and much more.
