Resolution

Cisco Visual Switch Manager may repeatedly prompt for a password due to an incorrect or damaged Java (JRE) Plug-in, assuming you have confirmed that you are entering a correct username and password.

To resolve this issue, perform these steps:

  1. Check for a damaged plug-in by opening Internet Explorer and going to Tools > Internet Options > Settings > View Objects.
  2. Check the status of the Java (JRE) Plug-in. If it is damaged, reinstall it.
  3. To check the version, open Internet Explorer and go to Tools > Internet Options > Settings > View Objects.

Note: Make sure the version is not 1.3.1, as it is not compatible with Cisco Visual Switch Manager.

For more information on the Java Plug-in version required, refer to the Web Interface Keeps Asking Username and Password section of Troubleshooting Cisco Visual Switch Manager or Cluster Management Suite Access on the Catalyst 2900 XL/3500 XL/2950/3550 Switch.

To download a compatible plug-in, refer to Java Plug-ins.
