Resolution

Multilayer Switch Feature Card 2 (MSFC2) contains Error Correction Code (ECC) memory protection. However, there are memory locations where parity is checked, but single bit errors cannot be corrected. The following are some of the error messages that you may see in the crashinfo file that would indicate a  parity error:

  • MISTRAL_TM_DATA_PAR_ERR_REG_MASK_HI: 42
  • Error condition detected: TM_NPP_PARITY_ERROR
  • Error condition detected: SYSAD_PARITY_ERROR
  • Error condition detected: SYSDRAM_PARITY

If the above error messages are logged once, it could be a single event upset, and  the MSFC2 should be monitored. If it happens more frequently, the MSFC2 should be replaced.

For more information on parity errors, refer to Processor Memory Parity Errors (PMPEs).
