The Please reset before issuing this command error message is displayed when attempting to issue the tftpdnld ROMmon mode command due to an issue with ROMmon variables

Core Issue

In some cases, this error message is displayed while issuing the tftpdnld ROM monitor (ROMmon) mode command to copy an image to Flash.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, perform these steps: 

1. To force the router back to ROMmon mode after the reset, issue the confreg 0x2100 command and then the reset  command, as shown:

   rommon1>confreg 0x2100
   rommon2>reset

2. After the router reboots to ROMmon mode, input the variables for the tftpdnld  command again by referring to How to Download a Software Image to a Cisco 2600 via TFTP Using the tftpdnld ROMmon Command.
3. After the tftpdnld procedure is complete, the router goes back to a ROMmon prompt.

   Issue the confreg 0x2102 command and reset. If the confreg 0x2102 command is not issued, the router boots to ROMmon mode after the reset, as shown in this command output example:

   rommon1>confreg 0x2102
   rommon2>reset

The router should now boot properly.
