state oper-state unknow

Hi Team,

1/ Under what conditions does a device move from the state oper-state "enabled" to " unknown" ?

# show devices device my-device state

state oper-state     unknow

2/ Why device platform information disappears when the device changed to the oper-state "unknow" ?

# show devices device my-device platform

% No entries found.

Before (or after a fresh sync-from) the ouput was:

# show devices device my-device platform

platform name NX-OS

platform version 6.1(2)I3(5)

platform model "cisco Nexus9000 C9396PX Chassis "

3/

Is there a way to keep trace of the information "platform model" even if the device oper-state changes to "unknown" ?

I ask this because I have a service template who use a condition based on the platform field and I do not want this to change over the time for the same device.

Thanks

Hi Yannick,

When a device is on "unknown" state, it basically means that there are not known capabilities for it. There are two circumstances that I have seen it:

1- No initial sync-from has been executed. This means that NSO has never contacted the device yet.

2- The device has the setting: "ned-settings use-transaction-id false".

The issue you are describing looks like a problem in the NX-OS NED and I would recommend you to contact the Cisco TAC.
