Add a network doesn't work anymore for me.

I did the same mistake - The network IP was wrong, didn't update automatically, so I have deleted it.

Now, if I try to populate the IP fields, I am getting the message "Network Already Present". But there is no network shown and the Windows Updater says the same "you don't have any networks".

Update: Took out the OpenDNS settings from the router, and uninstalled the "OpenDNS Updater" in Windows.

Looked in my web Dashboard and lo and behold, the network IP had autopopulated and I could add the network!

I don't know... something is wrong, I am tempted to quit using OpenDNS because of this. I have a dynamic IP and can't risk leaving my network without DNS when I am away from home...

@carl.cala0508

You cannot restore dashboard networks.  You create a network from anew if there is none.

@sonic67

Congrats, you did everything wrong.  Regarding error messages like "network already exists", see the knowledge base, e.g. https://support.opendns.com/hc/en-us/articles/227988867

Uninstalling the updater and being able to add a network was just by coincidence, but not needed.

"can't risk leaving my network without DNS"

This is nonsense.  You still have DNS even if your IP address information is not kept updated.  You'll be using OpenDNS defaults then instead of your individual dashboard settings.  DNS to function does not require a dashboard network.

I didn't do anything wrong. "This problem will occur when someone on your network has already registered your IP address"

Someone like the Windows updater program that was telling me that I am "updated" but the web interface was showing a different network IP (probably 1 year older).

Yeah, I could use the DNS without the dashboard settings. Or I can use my ISP DNS in the same way, plus it's faster.

Again, you did everything wrong.

  • You deleted a network instead of simply updating it with the current IP address information or to follow the KB article.
  • You uninstalled the Updater which has nothing to do with fixing your problem.

Your problem must have been of a different nature.  Difficult to research after all was fine again.

Well, if you don't need your dashboard settings, and you have proved that your ISP's DNS service is faster and more reliable, I suggest you use your ISP's DNS service.  Here is a tool to compare DNS services regarding their quality:

I deleted it because it wasn't working anymore. It was stuck on a wrong IP. But sure, that's my fault... if that makes you feel good.

I am sure that the Updater has everything to do with that.

Ok, accepted.  You are always right, of course.

"I am sure that the Updater has everything to do with that."

Fine.  That said, you checked the Updater's logs under "%APPDATA%\OpenDNS Updater", and you could verify that the Updater was malfunctioning.  Just out of interest, what was the exact malfunction?

Who are you rotblitz? You are constantly on here and all you do is insult people. Sure you might understand the system but there's no need to treat others so poorly.

"Who are you rotblitz?"

I'm the man your mother always warned about.  Thank you for contributing to the topic "Add a network".  How would you rate it?
