OpenDNS needs a better option for forcing safe search in Google and Bing and strict mode for YouTube. The proposed solution with CNAME entries is not workable for most home users as the vast majority of home routers do not support this and most users do not have the technical knowledge for this anyway. Without an easy, workable safe search option this service should not be offered as a "Family Shield" because it just gives parents a false sense of security. Set up OpenDNS to block porn and then do a regular Google search for 'tits' or 'sex gif' if you need proof of this. I switched to SafeDNS where there are simple checkboxes for safe search/strict features and it works great. Then I just blocked the search engine category (along with a bunch of other categories). I realize this is still not a bulletproof solution, but it is much better than I was able to get with OpenDNS.

So, what is your question here in the community help section of the forum?
This may be able to answer it:

I’m a little late to the party, but I was searching for the same thing.
Rotblitz, I think his post was pretty clear. CNAME entries are not a good solution... as in the link you posted that “may be able to answer” his question. Maybe you should read his post again?
Clearly, he was not asking a question. He was making a suggestion. A suggestion that I would second.

"CNAME entries are not a good solution"
Fine, then tell this Google. You're at the wrong place here, because it is not related to OpenDNS.
"he was not asking a question. He was making a suggestion."
Could well be. But I would expect suggestions to appear in the idea bank. In fact, this SafeSearch request is already in the idea bank, even multiple times. No need to add another entry, just vote the many existing ideas up.

I would have expected suggestions to appear in the idea bank section, not here in the community help section. There are already a bunch of equivalent requests in the idea bank:
https://support.opendns.com/hc/en-us/search?utf8=%E2%9C%93&topic=201090987&query=safe+search
But OpenDNS will probably not implement this, because the CNAME thing belongs to authoritative DNS services, not to recursive DNS services like OpenDNS. It is also a security risk when redirecting to 3rd party domains. It would not be under the control of OpenDNS.

rotblitz sorry but you are very wrong here.
It absolutely is related to openDNS, since other DNS filtering services have done exactly what is being suggested above.
I don't even know how Google could enforce it at their end.
Any restrictions you setup on the google account are bypassed simply by logging out or using incognito.

It is irrelevant if I am right here or not. I just provided the official position of OpenDNS which they have explained somewhere else and how I understood it back in March 2018.
But the world has changed in the meantime. This policy enforcement is part of Umbrella since a while.
