I had to blacklist l.google.com to block youtube android apps, but apparently it blocks gmail, any idea how to accomplish both, blocking youtube android app while allowing gmail

i had to remove l.google.com from my blacklist, b/c turns out its a critical subdomain which supports many google sites including gmail, so, yes, it very well blocks youtube app but drags along gmail and probably other stuff, so I had to remove it, now, gmail is back open but youtube as well, i blocked already ytimg.com and ytimg.google.com, there is got to be a specific subdomain under l.google.com which would only block youtube app, does any one know?

Apparently nobody knows. Check your stats to possibly find it out: https://dashboard.opendns.com/stats/all/start/

i realized later that the youtube app is blocked, however the app runs normally, loads suggested clips, lets you search etc, but when you actually click on a clip to run it it gives you some error message, so all is good as far as i'm concerned
so in short these are the sites to blacklist
ytimg.com
ytimg.google.com
ytims.l.google.com
DO NOT blacklist l.google.com
the youtube app will run till actually streaming a video

New version of what? Here are no YouTube app programmers...
No matter, everything you need to do is explained above: you check your stats and block domains as needed.

To block YouTube, you'll add the following domains to your "always block" list:
youtube.com
googlevideo.com
youtube-nocookie.com
ytimg.l.google.com
youtube-ui.l.google.com
ytstatic.l.google.com
ytimg.com
In addition and for other streamings block the Video Sharing category.
If this does not help, you have a problem with your configuration. You don't use OpenDNS, or you don't use your settings.
To find out what, post the complete plain text output of the following diagnostic commands here:
nslookup -type=txt debug.opendns.com.
nslookup www.youtube.com.

After much experimentation, I found that the following combination seems to work to block YouTube and the YouTube app for both Android and iOS, but this does not break Google Play music:
googlevideo.com
s.ytimg.com
youtube-ui.l.google.com
youtube.l.google.com
ytimg.com
ytmg.com
Also in the category list, block "Video Sharing"
If you have a dual band router, you can set one band up to use OpenDNS with these controls, and the other to use another DNS server or a different OpenDNS "Personal network" in your OpenDNS dashboard.
Try this and please do let me know how if it works for you.

Is it a mistake that ytmg.com went into your list? This doesn't seem to be related to Google/YouTube.
