My kids easily bypass OpenDNS / Umbrella with Google search results from "blockedgames" query. It would be nice to see an easy method to block these sites. I'm leaning towards giving up on Umbrella and implementing my own DNS RPZ based solution for my home network, but that involves actual work, unfortunately.

What do you actually want have blocked, the Google search results themselves or the domains where the search result links point to?  If the destination domains are not categorized as Games yet, then you add them to your blacklist.

    I am working to reduce access to some steam games to help my son get homework get done. There is a large list (created in 2014) of popular Steam game domain names listed on a community forum in a Steampowered Blog and I can type those in to block them but I would like to find the precise domain names that my son goes to regularly. Is there a location on the OpenDNS dashboard where I can see domain names he visits on his computer? I downloaded the Basic home version of OpenDNS.

You find the domains having been queried at https://dashboard.opendns.com/stats/all/topdomains

If you configured the OpenDNS resolver addresses only on his computer, then the stats contain only DNS queries from his computer.  If you configured OpenDNS on the router, then the stats contain all DNS traffic from your network.

Definitely not.  OpenDNS is not software, but a configurable service in the cloud.  If you downloaded something, it may not be OpenDNS.

Thank you for the clarification and information on domains. I misspoke when I said "downloaded" OpenDNS . I have OpenDNS Updater on my program list in Windows.

The Updater is not OpenDNS.  It is a small tool to keep your IP address information updated at OpenDNS.  If and as long as your IP address would not change, OpenDNS would work without it.  And you could use any other Updater instead, like the DDNS service of your router, DVR, NAS, IP camera etc, or another software on your computer, and OpenDNS would still work.
