Disney+ app not working

I can't get the Disney+ app to work. It gives me an error saying there's an issue connecting to the Disney+ service. When I turn off my wi-fi I can access it fine, as well as at other places, but just not at home while on my network. Any help is appreciated!

What has the Disney+ app to do with OpenDNS? Rather nothing. You better post in the Netgear community forum.

I removed the DNS servers and everything started working again. Disney plus too. One streaming app said the service wasn’t available in my country, which is a lie. Did opendns move there dns servers?

This is a widespread issue.  We need to know all web destinations used by the Disney+ app so they can be placed in "never block" in web content filtering under dashboard.  Simply allowing disneyplus.com and "movies" and other likely categories doesn't work.  Unlike some apps, disneyplus does seem to utilize traditional DNS name resolution (or) something entirely different is going on.

Again, the Disney service has nothing to do with OpenDNS, but with Disney and Netgear. And as I understand it, you cannot use Disney and OpenDNS at the same time. They are incompatible, because Disney is also a DNS service, same as OpenDNS.

I’ll defer to you. However, this took out some local streaming apps, Netflix, and Disney plus. Amazon prime and slingtv were still working. After removing the opendns DNS servers, all worked fine. I switched to an alternative to opendns and it’s working fine. Sounds like an opendns problem to me.

I say it again: You cannot use both services at the same time. They are both DNS services, and you can use only one DNS service at any time.

I’ll say it again. I’m using an alternative DNS service (just like opendns) and all is fine with the world again, including Disney plus.

I'm afraid nobody can help here, because it may be hard to find somebody with much Disney+ experience.

My subscription to Disney+ is via ROKU devices only.

I tried whitelisting a particular adserving site as recommended on a PS4 forum, but it did not fix the problem.

It appears the solution for me will be to put the ROKUs on their own router, which will be assigning Google or other DNS.  Really, the ROKUs do not need or benefit from OpenDNS, at least not with the ROKU channels I have installed.  There is nothing like a browser app or other wide-open access.

All the phones, tablets, and desktops will continue to use OpenDNS.  I already have multiple routers and access points so what's one more?  Can get a dual band AC1200 TPLink router on Amazon right now for $25 so why not? The new router will be cascaded via LAN ports (not the WAN port on the new router). Double NAT should not be a problem for the ROKUs (I don't think).  There should be no inbound connections looking for a service or whatever.  One of my routers serves security cameras and double NAT does have to be avoided there, but it shouldn't bother the ROKUs.

Yes, when I redirect my router to the childsafe version of OPENDNS, Disney+ app on my roku stops working. This is definately an OPENDNS issue. Pair this with the limit of 25 whitelist items on opendns and this is deal breaker. Childrens TV and internet filtering go hand in hand. I can't believe that opendns would subscribe to this type of obtuse thinking.

No, not an OpenDNS issue. Disney+ seems to be incompatible with OpenDNS by design. You probably can use either the one or the other.

@rotblitz, I respectfully disagree. When I changed the opendns filtering level from high to medium and then added disneyplus.com to the never block list, the Disney+ roku app started to working. Child internet filters of opendns and children's entertainment need to go hand in hand. The engineers at opendns need to figure out a solution. Innovation is happening. Opendns needs to keep up. It shouldn't take someone with an engineering degree and two masters degrees to figure it out. Opendns should just work.

I understood from above that OpenDNS works, but Roku doesn’t. It started to work when you stopped to block Roku. So everything works as it is supposed to work. Not sure what you want to have fixed.

I had the same problem with OpenDNS blocking Disney movies on the Disney app on my Apple TV. The problem was fixed by removing "Video Sharing" from the list of blocked categories under Web Content Filtering. Log into OpenDNS, click on your home network > click Web content filtering > select Custom > Uncheck the box next to Video Sharing > Click Apply
