I need some help/explanation.

I normaly use Norton Connectsafe but someone showed me OpenDNS. So i registered Home account and now I get a question add a network? WHY?

At Norton I get primary and secondary DNS number and I put it in my router. Why do I need to add a network and how does this work with dynamic IP addresses? It's not a pc witch can run the client side software it's a router....?

Unlike the Norton DNS service which is not configurable/customizable, OpenDNS is a fully configurable/customizable DNS service.  Therefore you need to add a network at your dashboard to register your IP address and to configure your settings, so that OpenDNS is able to associate your DNS queries with your dashboard settings.

This works well with dynamic IP addresses.  https://support.opendns.com/hc/en-us/articles/227987787
In short, you'll want to run an Updater within your LAN, be it software on a computer or be it a built-in DDNS update client on a hardware like a router, NAS, DVR, IP camera, etc.  This must support at least one of OpenDNS, DNS-O-Matic or "user defined".

All this information can be found or is linked from at https://dashboard.opendns.com/settings/

Well that's a problem. I have red this article https://support.opendns.com/hc/en-us/articles/227987787 and we have no device/computer at home that runs 24/7 most are used once or twice a week at home and for the rest on the road (this 24/7 is not green also!) Here we have lots of devices but non of then are according to point 1,2,3 ...

So Now OpenDNS does not work, devices after the router ar not protected.?     or....

OpenDNS always works, even when I sleep...

Hmm, at times where nobody uses the internet at home, why would you need to use your dashboard settings?  You wouldn't, because this would not make sense.  If nobody is there to use the internet, there is no need to run anything.  And even if you don't use your dashboard settings, the default settings still take effect which is phishing and basic malware protection.

If you install updaters on all the computers which are being used in your home network, they will update your IP address information at OpenDNS as soon as they boot up and someone starts to use the internet.  I can recommend Marc's Updater for this purpose which runs as a service in the background, independent from a user being logged on.  (The official OpenDNS updater doesn't do this.)

Also, OpenDNS Home is a service to be used in networks you own, not for your devices in other networks, i.e. "for the rest on the road" is not covered with the Home service.  To cover your mobile devices (Windows, Mac OSX) everywhere, you had to go for the Prosumer service of Cisco/OpenDNS.  For iOS and Android there are apps available to configure the DNS settings on those devices.

Another option is to configure your roaming devices with the OpenDNS FamilyShield addresses 208.67.222.123 and 208.67.220.123 which have a fixed pre-configuration to block adult and proxy/anonymizer domains if this is what you're looking for.  This is similar to what Norton DNS does.
