DynDNS and OpenDNS ?

Hello,

I have setup OpenDNS in my router and whole process went with success but now I have a problem because I have a dynamic ip and need to update it. I can do it either with DynDNS or TZO.com via router but I'm confussed how I should use DynDNS with OpenDNS because when I want to add network in my account settings it doesn't allow me to use DynDNS instead I need to input my Dynamic IP which well after restarting my router will change. I'm pretty good with computers etc but I want to setup OpenDNS in my network and have problem with updating my dynamic ip, any suggestions ? Also in DynDNS I have the following fields if that helps:

Username

Password

Host name

Status

Thank You

"how I should use DynDNS with OpenDNS"

You cannot, because your router supports DynDNS and (non-existent) TZO only, but not so OpenDNS, DNS-O-Matic or "user defined" which would be needed to use this built-in DDNS update client function also for OpenDNS.

"I have setup OpenDNS in my router"

But this has been with the OpenDNS resolver addresses, unrelated to the DDNS update client function.  This is to direct your DNS lookups to OpenDNS.

"I want to setup OpenDNS in my network and have problem with updating my dynamic ip, any suggestions ?"

You'll want to use another update client which works for this, e.g. https://www.opendns.com/downloads/ or https://updater.marc-hoersken.de/
Or you maybe have another device with a built-in DDNS update client supporting OpenDNS, DNS-O-Matic or "user defined", e.g. a DVR, NAS or camera?  You can use this then instead of a software on a computer.  Or you may be able to flush your router with an alternative firmware supporting what you want.

"Also in DynDNS I have the following fields if that helps:"

It helps, but only if you want to use DynDNS and want to keep a related Dynamic DNS hostname updated.

To update your dynamic IP address, all you will need is to install the Dynamic IP Updater on one of your computers having issues.

Check out this article on the OpenDNS Dynamic IP Updater Client for more information, and a link to download the client: https://support.opendns.com/entries/23282614-Where-do-I-download-an-OpenDNS-Dynamic-IP-updater-client-

If you run into any issues, feel free to submit a ticket to OpenDNS support.

Good luck! :)

Thank you guys for your help, so as I see I need to have unfortunately some computer turned on in my network which will update my IP when it changes. Security before everything else (:

Once Again Thank You for your help and contribution my my thread.

Not necessarily.  Again, you may have another device with a built-in DDNS update client supporting OpenDNS, DNS-O-Matic or "user defined", e.g. a DVR, NAS or camera?  You can use this then instead of a software on a computer.  Or you may be able to flash your router with an alternative firmware supporting what you want.  These are two highly viable options.

Thanks rotblitz.

For example, a router flashed with DD-WRT is a good example of how a "router with an alternative firmware" would work. Here's some helpful documentation that can help you set this up for your router here: https://support.opendns.com/entries/26022169-My-Router-uses-DD-WRT-Firmware-Can-I-still-use-OpenDNS-
