wow.com appeared last week when doing a Google search. Ii can't get rid of it. I updated from Maverick to Yosemite two days ago - it's still there. Apparently, wow.com is a hijacker. I've run AdwareMedic and wow.com is still appearing. Is it possible to block it via DNS and if so - how? Thank you.

In what context and what way does wow.com appear? Can you post a screen shot of this symptom?
"Apparently, wow.com is a hijacker."
Why do you think? www.wow.com is a search engine operated by AOL.
"Is it possible to block it via DNS and if so - how?"
You can block it by adding wow.com to your "always block" list.

wow.com appears when I do a search in Google.

The above link from Malware tips states:
"Wow.com is a browser hijacker, which is promoted via other free downloads, and once installed it will change your browser homepage to Wow.com and default search engine tosearch.yahoo.com."
Sorry for my tardiness in replying - have been struck down by lurgy! - and thank you for your answer. How do I add wow.com to my always block list?

Please ignore my question re blocking - I've done it!

"Wow.com is a browser hijacker, which is promoted via other free downloads, and once installed it will change your browser homepage to Wow.com and default search engine to search.yahoo.com."
Then you simply change/remove the homepage and the (default) search engine in your browser settings. You do not need to block wow.com with OpenDNS, not at all. And you don't need any special removal tool (which may be another kind of unwanted software...).
