Hello,
In an effort to make my Verizon FiOS 50/25 Mbps service the fastest it can be, I've been trying out various DNS services. One thing about the ISP connection being so fast is that you really notice when you have DNS or browser lags.
What is the deal with using namebench or DNSbench to test and identify the fastest DNS server? Both reported that Verizon's local server was the fastest but is that really the case? I know it won't provide phishing and other protection from OpenDNS, but what's the real story? I thought one of the primary reasons to use OpenDNS was to speed things up.
And, let me hear it from you... how does OpenDNS compare with Google public DNS?

If you look only after the fastest reliable DNS service, use the one identified by the DNS Benchmark test.
"I thought one of the primary reasons to use OpenDNS was to speed things up."
Not really. You get all the additional things like content filtering, stats, SmartCache and extra security. Often OpenDNS is also faster than other DNS services, but there are certainly individual differences as can be revealed by the test.
"how does OpenDNS compare with Google public DNS?"
Google DNS has none of the additional features supported by OpenDNS.
