Open DNS not working. Settings seem correct.

  • ISP: Cox
  • Router: Arris SBG6700-AC
  • Settings:

I've restarted router and computers multiple times, still not working. It was in the beginning, for a bit. Any ideas?

Restarting your devices multiple times is useless.  Beating them with a hammer is more efficient. ;-)

It could be that your ISP redirects your DNS traffic to their own DNS service.  If the command

nslookup -type=txt which.opendns.com. 208.67.222.220

returns "I am not an OpenDNS resolver", then your ISP redirects your DNS traffic.  You can call your ISP, or you can try to circumvent this restriction with https://dnscrypt.org/

Hmm. This what the command returned. Let me know if I got the syntax wrong:

C:\Windows\system32>nslookup -type=txt which.opendns.com. 208.67.222.220
Server: resolver3.opendns.com
Address: 208.67.222.220

Non-authoritative answer:
which.opendns.com text =

"m9.dfw"

Syntax is fine, else you would have received a related error message.

What does visiting http://welcome.opendns.com/ return?

It seems the router ignores the DNS settings shown in your screen shot.  This is a router problem, not an OpenDNS problem.  Refer to your router's support.

Instead of configuring your router, you could configure your end user devices.
