OpenDNS Updater broken on macOS 10.15 Catalina

Is there going to be an update to OpenDNS Updater for Mac?  The current version, 3.0, is very old and is a 32-bit program.

Starting today, with the release of macOS 10.15 Catalina, no 32-bit applications will be allowed to run on macOS any longer -- meaning OpenDNS Updater will no longer run on Macintosh computers running the latest operating system until it is updated to a 64-bit application.

Regards.

Thanks... but where does this come from?  It appears to be version 3.1, judging by its info.plist file but, on the other hand, it does not appear to be from OpenDNS or authorised by them.  Going to the official OpenDNS download page still offers up version 3.0.

If this is an external project, a link to its page on say, GitHub, would be helpful to those of us who would like to check out its authenticity.  Your link appears to be only a file you uploaded here, as an attachment, on the OpenDNS support site.  You don't identify yourself or your qualifications for disseminating a new version of the OpenDNS Updater.

Sorry, I don't mean to sound suspicious -- but your file, in the way you've offered it, IS suspicious -- and I don't feel comfortable using it until I have more information about its origins.

@pbear.sf I found this thread and it appears to be from there.  I agree with you though.  Looks a little strange not knowing who the person is. Hope this helps since you are in the same boat as me.

I can confirm it is working now.  Not sure why OpenDNS cannot post it somewhere.

Correct, I took the information from https://support.opendns.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360018016943/comments/360007761672

No idea why this is not officially published and released...

It is now officially released and signed.

When I try to download it still is v3.0 and mac os will not allow/open.  OpenDNS site does say it is 64 bit am I using the wrong link?

Yay!

Thanks for letting us know, rotblitz.

kaneshiro174: This is the link:

The file it downloads is still called OpenDNS Updater 3.0.zip but the file inside is now version 3.1.  Double-click the zip file to extract the application, then drag the application (.app) file into your Applications folder.  If your Mac balks at letting you open the application (it will usually say something like "this program has been downloaded from the internet; do you want to open it anyway?"), just click on "Open."  If that doesn't work, go to the applications folder and <control>-click on the app, choosing "Open" from the pop-up menu.

I found it in the dashboard - you just download the file in the lower right under "Download the OpenDNS Updater" and it's new (8mb vs 2mb older file).  Seems to work fine.

Best regards,

I have downloaded v3.1 on my mac. It shows the status as using OpenDNS, but no content is filtered. When I log in to my dashboard, all settings are active.

  1. Check at http://welcome.opendns.com/ that you're using OpenDNS as your DNS service.
  2. Check at https://dashboard.opendns.com/settings/ that your IP address is registered.
