Per Computer Parental Reports?

We are trying to replace "Covenant Eyes" on our home network. One key aspect is the ability not just to get whole network wide reports, but per computer reports. Can I get this through OpenDNS' Parental controls or VIP? I don't mind paying for it, but my goal here is not really to block - but to report.

You can get this only with OpenDNS Umbrella (Enterprise - Insights and Platform, with AD integration), merely in a Windows specific environment.

Yeah, not looking for that. Its not critical for per device, but we'd want to know - did an iPad or Mac - and if so which specific mac - access a website. But as I said its not critical - but would be nice.

The other thing I'd want is the OpenDNS reports not just to tell me that a blocked website was accessed - but when. Surely it should know that 🙂

This also comes with the Enterprise versions.  They definitely will not enhance the home versions with Enterprise specific features, else they wouldn't sell their products any longer...

Also, "OpenDNS reports not just to tell me that a blocked website was accessed - but when."

Neither.  DNS is not about visiting websites, but about name resolution.  OpenDNS (or any other DNS service) cannot know if and when a website has been visited.   DNS is the phone book of the internet, not the phone lines.  OpenDNS is not a proxy which would it have to be to obtain information about your web traffic.  This is how the internet works.

That said, the OpenDNS stats are solely about your DNS traffic, not about your web or any other traffic.

Dude I know how DNS works. I've run DNS servers, I've run entire corporate networks. I get you don't know that but now you do so please don't patronize me.

Everything I'm asking is simple. A DNS resolver that blocks hosts can log the time and date of the block. Clients will cache that and that's fine but I still want to know the date and time of when the requests that the OpenDNS server responded. Right now it tells me the day. Great. I'd like to also know the time. I'm not asking for a full on log of every request. It's getting blocked so in reality the first request is all I care about. Knowing if it happens in the morning, afternoon, or evening is a great help.

I could resolve this by running my own server at home and I have in the past, but I just don't wish to anymore. I might have to however but I was hoping not.

"Dude I know how DNS works."

Now I know that you know!  Glad to hear!  🙂

"Everything I'm asking is simple."

Fine, already answered, in my first post of this thread.  It comes with some Enterprise versions.

I have been on the Home DNS for some time. I have changed my main computer and moved added my administrative duties to this computer. Previous I had reports coming to my email. I no longer see that option. Could you tell me how to set that up?

OpenDNS Home does not send any sort of reports by email. To get those you need one of the pay products.

Not sure why you post this in a thread "Per Computer Parental Reports?" instead of opening your own thread, because your query doesn't seem to be related to the topic.

I don't know if LPC block pages can come with a form for users to report blocked domains to the administrator to get them unblocked.  You'll have to check the LPC dashboard for such an option: https://netgear.opendns.com/

If not, you can easily disable LPC and go back to OpenDNS Home where this option exists.

In case you do not use Netgear LPC anyway, check your dashboard settings for your network under Customization if the option "Show Contact Admin Form" is enabled.  Check also your e-mail settings at https://dashboard.opendns.com/myaccount/email for "Network feedback email address" being enabled.
