Why does opendns not filter things going through mobicip browser?

I have put mobicip as the browser on my kids devices, when I was checking websites my kids have been on lately there was a eharmony article that one of them had looked at.  I clicked the link from my laptop to see what they had read, and I got blocked by opendns, however when I got on my child's kindle and tried to go to eharmony on the mobicip browser it allowed it.  I have not changed by settings in mobicip to not allow dating sites, however since our open dns is set that way, that should have blocked it.  Please advise.

Why didn't you post this at the Mobicip forum?  This here is the OpenDNS forum where one can only guess about Mobicip.

No matter, pretty clear that you cannot use OpenDNS and these "cloud based" Mobicip apps at the same time, because they do the same.  OpenDNS handles the DNS queries you send them, and Mobicip apps handle the DNS queries you send them.  You have decided to do the latter, therefore OpenDNS is out of the game.  As soon as you start sending your DNS queries to OpenDNS, they will be handled as you expect.

Visit http://welcome.opendns.com/ on your child's device to get confirmed what I said.

Hi rja1234,

Thanks for getting in touch, sorry to hear you're having issues with unexpected content getting through. While I'm struggling to find specific reference to this in their support forums, previous forum requests imply that part of Mobicip's filtering takes place on the DNS level. Unfortunately we are only able to filter requests that we have seen, it sounds like Mobicip has prevented us from seeing this eHarmony domain request.

As Rotblitz suggested, I would recommend visiting http://welcome.opendns.com to confirm this analysis.

Thank you for the info and the link as I didn't know about the link.  Link works on my pc and on my son's phone when I use the mobicip browser, I get the oops you aren't using open dns yet page.  it also let me through on internetbadguys.com

If I use the phone default browser (which he is locked out of) it confirms my internet is safe.  I don't want to let him just use that however, because it is a mobile device so he is not protected when browsing outside of our wifi network.  I really like mobicip for all of my kids devices but I wish I could have it work with open dns while home.

I checked the knowledge base before posting and I didn't see anything there either.  Thanks for trying to help and let me know if you run across anything else that may help

"I wish I could have it work with open dns while home."

Why?  I got the impression that you can do nearly the same also with Mobicip if you "changed by settings in mobicip to not allow dating sites" etc.  And as I said, it is technically impossible to use two different DNS services at the same time.  You'll have to decide between OpenDNS and Mobicip.

I guess you are right, rotblitz - for some reason I was just trusting open DNS more as mobicip was something I was trying out to keep my kids safer on their devices.  Thanks for the info and helping me understand that they both filter at DNS level.
