Xbox Live not working with XBOX One X and OpenDNS

• I had configured OpenDNS Home on my home network with my Google Wifi system. I only had it filtering the Pornography category. For some reason my Xbox live would say not connected on my Xbox One X. I first tried a restart of the Xbox and even reset it to factory. Nothing would fix the connection. Do you have some specific things I should open up to make this work? I really would love to use your product to keep my kids safer. Thanks so much for the help!

• Would you recommend opening the following ports on my Google Wifi? 
  Port 88 (UDP) 
  Port 3074 (UDP and TCP) 
  Port 53 (UDP and TCP) 
  Port 80 (TCP) 
  Port 500 (UDP) 
  Port 3544 (UDP) 
  Port 4500 (UDP)

  Do I need to Whitelist these in my DNS settings?

DNS and ports are unrelated. Therefore I do not think that opening ports would have any success unless these ports are needed by XBox and are actually blocked by something on your end, incoming or outgoing.

DNS is not related to connections.  DNS is the phone book of the internet, not the phone lines.  If your issues are related to connections (phone lines), then fixing with DNS (phone book) will not help.

We cannot answer this.  You can answer this yourself by checking https://dashboard.opendns.com/stats/all/blockeddomains
If there's nothing blocked which is XBox Live related, then you don't have to whitelist anything.  Else yes, you would unblock or whitelist the blocked domain names.

It's not my product, and you normally do not talk to staff here, but to other users.

It would still regulate what sites the XBOX would be allowed to visit. Has to be related to the DNS change as it works with the OpenDNS not applied.  So... Anyone that has had this issue before how did you fix it?

If you meant "OpenDNS" by "it", "domains" by "sites" and "query" by "visit", then yes.  I.e.

    OpenDNS would still regulate what domains the XBox would be allowed to query.

Correct.  That said, you didn't find anything related at https://dashboard.opendns.com/stats/all/blockeddomains - right?  Then OpenDNS didn't "regulate" anything.

What DNS service do you use else?  Well, I did tell you how to fix it if it is really related to OpenDNS.  Why do you continue to ask instead of following my instructions?

I don't see instructions. Just comments. I understand how the blocked domains dashboard works as you stated.

My instructions have been:

• Visit https://dashboard.opendns.com/stats/all/blockeddomains
• Identify domains related to XBox Live.
• Unblock these domains, or add them to your "never block" list.

And no, I did not ask you to search the community posts.  Instead I asked if you did this and provided you with a link to your identical issue.

Google DNS (or whatever other DNS you use) does not block anything.  OpenDNS allows you to block categories of domains or individual domains at your dashboard.  You may have XBox Live related domains blocked with your dashboard settings.

Also, I see that you are unwilling to cooperate, or you simply don't understand what I wrote.  You don't answer questions and don't follow instructions and suggestions.  It's really hard to help somebody like you.  Don't be too optimistic to think that anybody else can help you.

Why on earth would I block domains and then say something can't get through? I didn't know the obvious needed to be stated. If my tv doesn't work do I need to state that it's plugged in???  Why would that even be something anyone would post.   Any tech person with common sense would know to eliminate the blocked content and test the connection.

Rotblitz... Sorry dude but you must not understand sarcasm. The point of the last statement was to not state the obvious. So funny you had to comment on that.  Why offer to "help" people with condescending statements. It really isn't needed and doesn't do a thing for anyone. 

I've been reading this since yesterday. I'm a Network Tech for a large corporation in the US.  Using services like OpenDNS DO provide filtering options and do regulate what websites devices can go to on a personal network. The problem could be with your Google Wifi but I doubt that. I would try using the least restricted mode in OpenDNS, open the ports as you first stated even though you may have no domain blocks.  If all your OTHER devices (- the Xbox)  are working normally with or without OpenDNS services applied to your network settings then it would have to be OpenDNS. I will watch for a resolution to your issue. Good Luck!

Never mind, I generally ignore attitudes like sarcasm or irony as if it hasn't happened.  They are just good to cover weaknesses of individuals being sarcastic or ironic.  And it doesn't help other people who read this and have the same problem.

The issue cannot be with non-open ports, else he would face the problem with any DNS service, not just with OpenDNS.  I also would think the issue is because of filtering settings at the OpenDNS dashboard.  Therefore the link to the YouTube video where someone explains how to assign another DNS service just for the XBox.
