I have the general understanding of what is single mode, multi mode fibre etc. and how the 62.5 and 125 is determined. but have some confusion over how the other numbers are determined i.e. the 850nm 1310nm figures for mmf. Are these numbers determined by the type of laser/LED, (modulation frequency)used or when the fibre is installed, is it actually terminated as either 850, 1310nm. If this is the case then I would also expect that 1310nm fibre will take 850 and 1310nm laser/LED but 850 will only take 850nm laser/LED.

62,5 fiber can be used with either 850nm or 1310nm. But both transmitter and reciever mus be the same. The loss is lower if you transmit at 1310nm than 850nm, and you can usually transmit over longer distances, or at a higer speed
