Cisco Optics-to-Device Compatibility Matrix says that GLC-SX-MMD is compatible with C8200-1N-4T from IOS XE 17.5.1
https://tmgmatrix.cisco.com/?tpid=201&npid=4582
But in my case it is not.
C8200#sh ver
Cisco IOS XE Software, Version 17.06.03a
C8200#sh int g 0/0/2 transceiver detail
Transceiver initialization failed: Unable to display idpromDiagnostic Monitoring is not implemented.
C8200#sh inv raw
NAME: "subslot 0/0 transceiver 2", DESCR: "Unknown pluggable optics"
Although the same brand new cisco original sfp module with dom support (GLC-SX-MMD) works as expected in an old catalyst switch (C2975GS-48PS-L)
C2975#sh inv
NAME: "GigabitEthernet1/0/50", DESCR: "1000BaseSX SFP"
PID: GLC-SX-MMD , VID: V01 , SN: xxx
So I was starting to think that maybe the builtin sfp port from the also brand new cisco edge platform (C8200-1N-4T) is at fault.
But apparently not because the builtin sfp port works just fine with the previous model transceiver without dom support (GLC-SX-MM)
C8200#sh inv raw
NAME: "subslot 0/0 transceiver 2", DESCR: "GE SX"
PID: SFBR-5766PZ-CS1 , VID: , SN: xxx
C8200#sh int g 0/0/2 transceiver
The Transceiver in slot 0 subslot 0 port 2 is enabled.
Sensor Data is not supported by this transceiverDiagnostic Monitoring is not implemented.
At this moment I cannot make an ios upgrade because my smartnet contract is not activated yet.
Does anyone else experienced an incompatibility between GLC-SX-MMD and C8200-1N-4T on builtin sfp ports ?
Any thoughts appreciated.

That is why we use 3rd party optics.
