Hello Ignacio,
You can configure them as autonomous mode and it will not be needed to get a wireless controller. Here there is guide of how to configure the Cisco Aironet 1140 series.
Getting Started Guide: Cisco Aironet 1140 Series Autonomous Access Point - Cisco
However, if the access points were previously deployed with a wireless controller that means that they were configure as lightweight access point and you must convert them back to autonomous. On the following document you will find how to do it.

Cristina or Anyone,
I am in need of the updated firmware for the Lan Controller 2106 and the 1142 AP's. I have a COO login but it will not let me download the "latest" firmware for these. How can I obtain the firmware?
Please email me if this is possible - flyritefozzy@gmail.com
Thanks.

You need to have a valid service contract for the WLC in order to download the updated software for it. No contract, no access to download it. If you are uncertain if you have a service contract, you can view contact methods for Cisco here:
Support Cisco Worldwide Contacts - Cisco
Note that the 1141 and 1142 were supported starting with release 5.2.157.0
