I have a 1720 and need an extra Ethernet port, as well as the capability of making an IKE VPN tunnel over the DSL connection. Will the router do this?
Does anyone know if the WIC-1ENET card will work with a 1720 router, and, if so, will that card work as a PPPoE gateway for a DSL connection?
Alternately, does anyone know if the WIC-1AM card will work with this router as well?
The reason I ask is that I know the 1720 has reached EOL. Not sure if any IOSes that will run on the 1720 will support this stuff.

Yes the WIC-1ENET is the right card you are looking for inorder to add a second ethernet port on your 1720.Just make sure your IOS version is 12.2(2)XJ or higher.
Once the card is installed, if you have the right feature set on your IOS, you can enable PPPOE for your DSL connection. Its just a software feature and has nothing to do with this card. Here is a template you can use to build the config.
WIC-1AM is compatible with 1720. Here are some docs which support that statement.

Hope that helps!

That's what I needed to know. I'm VERY familiar with setting routers up in this fashion. I can do a 1721 like this with my eyes closed. Just wanted to be sure the 1720 did it since it had reached EOL.
Thanks again!
