It is most likely the baud rate on the 2524 that has been set differently. Try different baud rates on your terminal. According to http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/routers/ps233/products_maintenance_guide_chapter09186a008014b480.html#479, it is bits 11 and 12 of the config register that determine the baud rate on a 2500, i.e. the 0x1000 and 0x0800 positions, and the only possibilities in a 25xx are baud rates 1200, 2400, 4800, or 9600.

When you are changing the speed of your terminal emulator, don't forget to quit and re-enter the application, or hang up and re-connect, or whatever it is you have to do to pursuade it to take on the new settings.

Have you got telnet access to the box? If so, you can do a show vers to read the config register and work out the console speed from that.

P.S. your posting says you have it set for 9800,n,8,1. I presume that's a misprint for 9600,n,8,1 ?

Thanks kevin.i will try it out when I get home tonight.Yes indeed the I made a mistake in typing out the baud rate.It is 9600 not 9800.I was varying the baude rate without exiting the terminal sessions. It use to work perfectly all of a sudden it just staretd acting up.i was not concious that i changedthese settings.

Good luck, Herb, and do please let us know how you get on. That way we can all learn from the experience, whichever way it goes.
